Deke Slayton Space Week Activities
Retired astronaut Mark Lee will be presenting in person on the Friday of camp!
Robotics lab- build and program a robot with a fellow space cadet
Rocket build- construct a rocket and customize it with a unique paint job
Rocket launch- fire off the rocket you built at the end of camp
Zero gravity experiments- use water to simulate zero gravity at the Sparta pool

Visit the Sparta Airport- explore the planes and learn about navigation
Visit a Planetarium- Central High School, La Crosse
Team-building activities- throughout the week, each space cadet will be a team leader for a day and learn what it is like to be a mission commander
STEM challenges- space cadets will work in a team to build, create, and solve various tasks put before them
History of the space program- from the first astronauts of the Mercury program to those training for the mission to Mars
Guest speakers and presentations- growing plants in space, current NASA projects and research, engineering, principals of flight, spacecraft construction, how weather affects space launch conditions, and so much more

Graduation dinner- Friday evening is the graduation ceremony. Each space cadet is recognized and presented with a diploma and special lapel pin from retired astronaut Mark Lee, the Sparta Mayor, and the Museum Board President. This is followed by a dinner for the space cadets and their families, Space Week instructors, and Space Week donors.
